ASTM A500 tubing has many different names
For squares and rectangles, it is called structural tubing or HSS (or hollow structural section). The A500 product is intended for applications that require load-bearing applications. Due to its aesthetic appeal, the A500 is often used as a showcase for architectural marvels, such as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. When you order A500 pipe from the factory, you get an MTR or material test report that shows not only the chemical composition of the coil used to make the pipe, but also the yield, stretch and elongation properties. The reporting of physical properties is one of the main differences between the A500 and A513 materials.
ASTM A513 or mechanical tubing is used for more consumer-based applications that require tighter tolerances but are not concerned with the load-bearing characteristics of the material itself. In general, ASTM A513 has a wide range of applications that can include lawn mower handlebars, legs on bar stools or restaurant chairs, and specific parts (such as handlebars) used in recreational vehicles. Although not load-bearing, you will find that most ASTM A513 pipe applications are handled or maintained according to the application for which they are designed.
ASTM A500 square pipe standard
ASTM is the standard of American Society for testing and materials. Specifically, ASTM A500 is round and special-shaped welded and seamless carbon steel structural tubing in rounds and shapes
First of all, this is not a material, but the production standard of square tube ASTM A513 resistance welded carbon and alloy steel mechanical square pipe
ASTM A500 carbon steel cold formed welded square tubes and seamless square tubes with circular and special-shaped sections for structural purposes
ASTM A335 ferritic alloy steel seamless square pipe for high temperature operation
ASTM A500 is divided into class A and class b square pipes
ASTM: American Society for testing and materials
ASTM A500 is the standard for welded square pipes.
ASTM A500 grade B, specific parameters are as follows:
Tensile strength 400MPa yield strength 310mpa chemical composition: C 0.26 Mn --- P 0.04 s 0.05 you can refer to GB 3094 cold drawn special-shaped square pipe standard.
ASTM A500 standard involves many grades of materials. Such as grade A, grade B. The performance of each grade of material has different requirements. We can't generally say what standard can be used to replace it.
Generally, material substitution requires that the substituted material has the same composition and mechanical properties as the substituted material.
